Hybrid PET/MR metabolic imaging of the reperfused infarct - new biology, future directions

چکیده
Background Multi-modality interrogation of myocardial health and disease using fused Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance (MR) data has been limited by the need for separate scans, and complex and potentially imprecise co-registration of the individuallyacquired PET and MR images. We sought to explore the potential of hybrid simultaneous PET/MR (hs-PET/ MR) imaging to precisely localize changes in cardiac metabolism in areas of acute myocardial infarction (MI) and the area-at-risk (AAR) in acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients reperfused by primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI).

Recent Advances in PET-MR Hybrid contrast agent
Introduction: All of the Imaging modalities have advantages and disadvantages alone. So if we want to have the best and perfect image, combining these modalities produces something we desired. PET-MR images consist of morphologic and metabolic data. MRI and PET provide high spatial and contrast resolution and high sensitivity and molecular information respectively. Hybrid PET-...
متن کاملAssessing myocardial salvage in reperfused STEMI patients by hybrid cardiac PET-MR imaging
To assess the efficacy of novel cardioprotective therapies for reducing myocardial infarct size, it is important to accurately measure the area at risk, as this is needed to assess myocardial salvage, a more sensitive measure of cardioprotection. Although T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is a promising technique for quantifying the area at risk, this approach does hav...
متن کاملNew and Emerging Techniques: PET/MR
Following PET/CT and SPECT/CT, PET/MR hybrid imaging is the most recent addition to the palette of hybrid cardiac imaging modalities. PET/MR synergistically combines the excellent soft tissue contrast and detailed image resolution of MR with metabolic information provided by PET. Integrated PET/MR systems furthermore offer the ability to acquire hybrid imaging data simultaneously (1). Beyond ex...
متن کاملIntegrated Whole Body MR/PET: Where Are We?
Whole body integrated magnetic resonance imaging (MR)/positron emission tomography (PET) imaging systems have recently become available for clinical use and are currently being used to explore whether the combined anatomic and functional capabilities of MR imaging and the metabolic information of PET provide new insight into disease phenotypes and biology, and provide a better assessment of onc...
متن کاملComputed tomography based attenuation correction in PET/CT: Principles, instrumentation, protocols, artifacts and future trends
The advent of dual-modality PET/CT imaging has revolutionized the practice of clinical oncology, cardiology and neurology by improving lesions localization and the possibility of accurate quantitative analysis. In addition, the use of CT images for CT-based attenuation correction (CTAC) allows to decrease the overall scanning time and to create a noise-free attenuat...
